She created new vineyard extensions, increased and improved the company's stocks of old wines, and contributed to improving the arduous lives of local farming families by founding schools, nurseries, and hospitals. In 1987, Dirk joined his father, Rolf Niepoort, in the family business and was challenged to innovate while maintaining good traditions. The first important step was the acquisition of their own vineyards: Quinta de Nápoles and Quinta do Carril in the Cima Corgo, a region that traditionally produces the best Port wines. 15 hectares of vines were newly planted, and 10 hectares of 60-year-old vines were carefully maintained. Owning Quintas and vineyards in the Douro was an important step for the production of Port wine and for the creation of the first non-fortified Niepoort wines. Rolf dedicated his interest to commercial and human relationships within and outside the company, and was conservative when it came to wine production. Rolf nostalgically remembers the production of a Vintage Port, the 1970 one, as if it were his own creation, from beginning to end. Currently, it is considered one of Niepoort's greatest Ports. Rolf Niepoort, his son, remembers his father as a person "interested in various areas, such as chemistry, physics, and mechanics, and was a man with a fine sense of humor." In the words of Elisabete, who worked with him and was already involved in administration at the time, he was a true "icon of intelligence," an upright person who was very thoughtful in his decisions. Eduard Marius left the company as an active partner in 1980 and dedicated his time to his many hobbies and collections. Eduard Marius Niepoort passed away at the age of 91 (on June 3, 1982). To that end, they always opted for excellence and meticulous attention to detail in their production. The decision to plant the Quinta das Bajancas vineyard was made in 1993, after studying the edaphoclimatic conditions of the location to determine the most suitable grape varieties. Following this study, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinta Francisca, and Tinta Amarela were chosen for the red wines, and Rabigato, Gouveio, Malvasia Fina, and Códega do Larinho for the white wines. The first planting took place on a 4-hectare plot on a south-facing mid-slope with known potential, called "bajancas". The vines were planted in early 1994, and for 10 years, the decision was made not to produce or bottle any quantities in order to favor only the vegetative development of the plant. In 2000, the second phase of vineyard planting was carried out on an additional 8 hectares, with the grape varieties Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Francisca, bringing Quinta das Bajancas to a total of 12 hectares of vineyards. In 2004, the decision was made to produce the first wine, and because we consider technical knowledge absolutely crucial to achieving our goals, we established a partnership with the winemaking company 2PR, which, like us, always opts for excellence and rigor in every detail, from production to marketing. The PatGen Vineyards project, as it is called, and developed in partnership with the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), aims to identify all the grape varieties that are part of the Maria Teresa Vineyard, and, to date, 54 different varieties have already been identified, including four white grape varieties and one "unknown" red grape variety, that is, a variety with which it has not yet been possible to find any equivalence.

A 100-year-old vine in an old vineyard like Vinha Maria Teresa has a significantly lower production capacity and will never be able to produce the same quantity of grapes as a vine in a new vineyard. The roots of the Vinha Maria Teresa vines can reach tens of meters deep, penetrating the schistous soil in search of water and nutrients, which increases competition between each vine and helps improve the productive performance of each plant. In these special years, the Maria Teresa Vineyard produces between 2,000 and 8,000 bottles of Quinta do Crasto Vinha Maria Teresa, depending on the exceptionality of each year.
