They joined forces with winemaking and set off through the challenging landscapes of Cima Corgo and Douro Superior in search of prime soils and vineyards. For two years they studied varieties, grafts, altitudes, and exposures. As they narrowed down options, the draft became more than just an idea.

Finally, they were faced with a decision: heads or tails.
Two properties perfectly suited their needs. It was a perfect match… since the chosen Quinta – Quinta do Tralhão – perfectly embodies this producer and the incredible wines produced there.

With an average altitude of 215 meters and southwest exposure, the Quinta had, at the time, 30 hectares, of which 12 hectares were vineyards over two decades old. It seemed perfect. But everything good comes at a price. The vineyards were in a state of widespread neglect, which necessitated a complete restructuring.

The millennium was drawing to a close when Celso and Jorge finally established the company Quanta Terra Ltda.

Visionaries with a high-potential project, but lacking the financial means to bring it to Tralhão, the two winemakers agreed on their intentions and proposed a share to Mário Joaquim, the owner of the property that had belonged to his family for generations.
