Description
Álvaro de Castro is a civil engineer and inherited this property in 1980, dedicating himself exclusively to it, reestablishing the family tradition in wine production, broken two generations ago.
Taking his youthful references to heart and remembering the wines produced by Eng. Vilhena from the Nelas study center. His first wine then appears with the 1989 harvest.
From that time until today he has been supported in oenology by Engº. Magalhães Coelho and more recently by his daughter Eng. Maria Castro and also by Eng. Ataíde Semedo.
The vines, aged between 3 and 65 years, are located at an average altitude of 550 m. The total area makes up 60 ha, where the typical grape varieties of the region are planted, in granite-based soil with lines of sand and clay: Encruzado, Cercial, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Jaen, Alfrocheiro, Baga and a Vinha Velha with more of 30 different varieties.
