Description
Quinta do Javali is a small property of around 18ha intended for planting vineyards. It is located on the left bank of the Douro River in the parish of Nagoselo do Douro – S. João da Pesqueira, in a place with a winemaking tradition since the beginning of the production of Port wine for export at the end of the 19th century. XVII beginning of the century. XVIII.
The existence, on the farm, of a fishing spot on the river that simultaneously served as a berth for loading boats rabelo; a small country house (hut) now restored, which displays an inscription found on a threshold of the house dated 1839; The typical old Douro terraced walls that exist throughout the property are testimony to the ancient wine growing of the place.
The North – East exposure/orientation of the property's slope, as well as the terrain entirely made of schist with vertical diaclases, which allow the penetration of the vine's roots to unthinkable depths, with the consequent complexity of benefits for the vine, give Quinta do Javali qualities exceptional for the production of the best PORTO and DOC DOURO wines.
Our vineyard is planted on the characteristic Douro terraces, of schist nature, at an altitude between 150 and 300m and consists of the varieties Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca and Sousão. With the mission of exploring this “hidden treasure” of the Douro we created the family company “Sociedade Agrícola da Quinta do Javali, Lda” with the sole objective of producing and selling only high quality DOC DOURO and PORTO wines.
