Description
Herdade do Arrepiado Velho is located in Sousel, about 40 km from Portalegre, in Alto Alentejo. In 2001, a long-abandoned space was reborn. The Alentejo hill from the 17th century. XIX was rebuilt according to the traditional architecture of the region, magnificently preserved, full of spaces of rare beauty. With a total area of around 100 hectares, the dam stands out among vineyards and olive groves, in a mix of colors and tranquility, as only the Alentejo offers.
In 2002, 33 hectares of vineyards were planted from scratch, in a terroir that combines, in a rare way, schist soils with steep slopes with mild temperatures and an abundance of water, natural characteristics that indicate great potential. David Both (wine grower) and António Maçanita (enologist) combined their knowledge, innovation and dedication, selected the grape varieties and created the now nicknamed “Vinha dos 100 points”. From 2012 onwards, the vineyard was taken over by Nuno Ramalho, current winegrower. In reds, Touriga Nacional, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon and in whites, Antão Vaz, Chardonnay, Riesling, Viognier and Verdelho.
In charge of the project is António Antunes, responsible for producing unique and seductive wines, which are born from modern oenology combined with tradition and Marta Neto, responsible for marketing and bold and elegant design. Together they break down barriers and pre-made ideas, making wines outside the box but always with quality at the forefront of their ambitions.
