Description
In 1982 José Carlos Calheiros Cruz, coming from a family of Douro winemakers, resumed the family tradition and built a modern winemaking center in Régua, Douro Demarcated Region. In 1985, he ventured into the production of bottled wine with the ambition of leaving his mark on the wine market and taking the Douro to the world.
In 2001, with the support of renowned winemaker Anselmo Mendes, his work began to be recognized internationally, Adega Calheiros Cruz was considered “Winery of the Year” by América “Wine & Spirits” magazine.
With the death of her husband José Carlos, in 2002 Madalena Calheiros Cruz took over leadership of the company, continuing her husband's passion and continuing to work with the same values and objectives.
