Quinta do Mouro is located at the gates of the city of Estremoz, and belonged for centuries to the Zagalos family, one of the wealthiest in the city. This original “farm” in Alentejo, where the vast estates dominate, has a palatial house from the 19th century. XVIII, charming gardens, arbors and tanks from the 18th century. In 1979, at just 26 years old, luck dictated Miguel Louro's fate at a poker table, among friends, when he faced the dilemma of buying a Porsche or Quinta do Mouro. The first hectares of vineyards would be planted in 1989, after a failed foray into livestock farming, and today it is one of the most iconic wine producers in the region.
Quinta do Mouro was elected the Best Producer in Alentejo by Wine magazine in 2015. That same year, in The Wine Advocate, critic Mark Squires stated: «All the tastings I did in Alentejo only lead me to one conclusion. Quinta do Mouro is the best producer in the region. It's impossible to ignore it»
« 'While passing through here, in 1978, I came to see this farm that was for sale. This caught my eye, the idea, but I was 25 years old at the time and I had to find the money to buy it...
