Emperor Charles V (1500-1558) was born in Ghent and spent much of his youth in Belgium.
He is considered one of the greatest emperors of all time. His empire turned out to be so big that people used to say the sun never set on it. Emperor Charles V is also often considered the forefather of Europe.
But Charles V was not just a great figure. He was also an ardent beer lover. In his honor, Haacht Brewery created Charles Quint beers fit for an emperor.
