Description

Both Celso Pereira and Jorge Alves could have the nickname 'Quanta Terra', if they weren't the personification of the wine brand that this year celebrates its first 20 years of existence.

More than riding on the back of a passionate passion of each of those responsible, Quanta Terra began to take its first steps (and without knowing it) in the distant 90s, where the two main actors met while collaborating in the Department of Enology in the Transmontanas Cellars.
They quickly developed a professional complicity that would allow them to create a solid foundation for Quanta Terra, which, at the time, was just a mirage – or a sketch in a paper notebook, the reader chooses the analogy that best suits him in the context.
One day they thought it was time to materialize the idea into something concrete. They joined hands with the creation of wine and set out across the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior in search of excellent soils and vineyards. For two years they studied grape varieties, grafts, altitudes and exposures. As they cut options, the draft became more than an idea.

Finally, they were faced with a decision: heads or tails.
Two properties filled their dimensions. It was heads… and tails, as the chosen Quinta – Quinta do Tralhão – is the face of this producer and the crown of the incredible wines produced there.

With an average elevation of 215 m and southwest exposure, the Quinta had, at the time, 30 ha of which 12 ha were vineyards over two decades old. It looked perfect. But everything good has a price to pay. The vineyards were in a general state of abandonment, which required complete restructuring.

The millennium was ending when, finally, Celso and Jorge established the company Quanta Terra, Lda.

Visionaries, with a project of high potential, but without the financial means to carry out Tralhão, the two winemakers agreed on their intentions and proposed a share to Mário Joaquim, owner of the property that had belonged to his family for several generations. The die was cast.
