390,00

A NIGHT ON EARTH IN SCOTLAND celebrates the special moments we spend with those who matter most to us. New Year's Eve is one such occasion, the night when people around the world come together – as they have for generations – to acknowledge the days that have passed and make plans for the future.

This launch is inspired by the way we welcome the New Year at the home of The Macallan in Speyside, Scotland. The unique expression was created using a perfectly balanced combination of exceptional first-fill American ex-bourbon casks along with seasoned European and American oak sherry casks.

Telling the story of Scotland's world-famous Hogmanay festivities, celebrated annually on December 31, A Night on Earth In Scotland captures the universal joy of celebrating the change of year.
This seasonal release is a collaboration with acclaimed Japanese-French illustrator Erica Dorn, whose artwork has appeared in films by director Wes Anderson.
The single malt is presented in unique packaging to provide a special unboxing experience and Dorn's playful abstract illustrations are inspired by the historic fire rituals dominant in New Year celebrations around the world.

Description

An obsession with quality has been Macallan's hallmark since its founding by Alexander Reid on a plateau above the River Spey in northeast Scotland. The distillery is surrounded by a 485-acre estate with the Easter Elchies House at its center.

The Macallan was one of the first distillers in Scotland to be legally licensed. Since then, we have built a reputation as one of the world's leading single malt whiskies. The creation of Macallan draws on the vital influences of Spain, North America and Scotland – and their respective natural raw materials, combined with traditional methods and craftsmanship.

The Macallan distillery was founded by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and teacher. The original name of the area was “Maghellan”, derived from the Gaulish word “magh”, meaning fertile soil, and “Ellan”, from the monk St.Fillan – which maintained a close association with the church that stood on the grounds of the Macallan Estate until the 1400s. Farmers had been producing whiskey on their Speyside farms in the area for centuries, using surplus barley during the quieter winter months.

The Macallan's reputation is built on a product of excellent quality and distinctive character, based on a set of guiding principles. From place to process, people and passion, the Six Pillars are the backdrop to The Macallan's unique spirit.

Our reputation for extraordinary is characterized by the exceptional oak barrels that Macallan is known for. Sourced, crafted, roasted and seasoned under the watchful eye of the Macallan Wood Master, hand-picked casks are delivered to the Macallan Whiskey Mastery Team's exacting specifications. For each expression of The Macallan, the quality of the whiskey depends largely on the quality of the oak casks in which it is matured, as well as the quality of our 'new brand' spirit distilled from water, yeast and barley. With up to 80% of Macallan's final character and flavor determined by cask quality, the oak cask is the most important factor in ensuring and delivering the quality and style of our single malt.

All of our whiskeys get 100% of their color from the wood in which they are matured. As wood is a natural product, each tree is different and in turn, imparts different flavors and colors to the whiskey during maturation. The skill of whiskey makers ensures that the color is as consistent as possible from bottling to bottling, through the management and selection of casks that provide the natural color spectrum essential to Macallan single malt.

Macallan works closely with fully integrated 'tree to finished seasoned barrel' companies in Spain; To identify the oaks in the forests of northern Spain, fell the trees, sawing and drying the oak staves before sending them south for further air drying to further reduce moisture. The casks are then seasoned for 18 months before traveling to Scotland where they are filled with the spirit of 'new brand' The Macallan.
