Description

The modern Maison of Veuve Clicquot has one of the best champagne vineyards, both in terms of size and the quality of its vines. Its 390 hectares are divided between 12 of the 17 Grands Crus and between 20 of the 44 Premiers Crus that make up the entire Champagne region.
This exceptional heritage was built over the centuries, based on plots initially established by the founder, and added to by subsequent vineyard directors.
In particular, Veuve Clicquot bears the fortuitous territorial mark of Madame Clicquot.

While the latter represents only a quarter of the total area of vineyards in the entire Champagne region. The grape variety for each plot is determined by evaluating its soil, climate and exposure. The Veuve Clicquot vineyard is made up of 47% of Chardonnay grapes, 36% Pinot Noir and 17% Pinot Meunier. Clicquot vineyards are mainly located on gentle slopes, allowing the vines to benefit from shallow soils and maximum exposure to sunlight. Since its founding, the Maison of Veuve Clicquot has also established a strong partnership with its fellow winegrowers in Champagne. These grape and white wine suppliers help ensure the consistent quality of Veuve Clicquot wines.

Spread across a landscape of hills, Veuve Clicquot's vineyards are in an ideal position to receive the sun's rays. These zones are defined according to key AOC criteria, outlining solar exposure, slope, soil and subsoil. A north-facing position leaves the vines exposed to climate variations such as frost and winter or spring, causing unfertilized grapes or grape drop, but can also result in moderate rainfall and temperatures, with temperate summer and autumn seasons.
