Description

The first references to Quinta da Ferradosa date back to the end of the 19th century, when it belonged to the Borges family.

At the beginning of the 20th century it was purchased by Real Companhia Velha, the oldest Port Wine company.

The construction of the Valeira dam caused a rise in the water level of the Douro River, submerging a large area of Quinta da Ferradosa's vineyards, which affected its wine-growing potential and made access difficult.

In the 90s, the Quinta was purchased by Joaquim Manuel Calem, owner of the company AA Calem & Filho Lda, one of the main Portuguese companies producing and exporting Port Wine, created by his great-great-grandfather in 1859. The company remained in the family until the 21st century, when it was sold, together with the brand. However, the heritage of the farms remained the property of the Calem family.

Joaquim Manuel Calem, father of the current owner, had a great passion for Ferradosa, and here he planted 13 hectares with three of the region's main grape varieties: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz. He was also responsible for installing electricity on the property, and also had major plans to rebuild the existing ruins, in order to bring the Quinta back to its heyday.

Joaquim Manuel died in 2006, when his son, also Joaquim, inherited Ferradosa. Bringing within you the same desire to invest in this remote, inhospitable and inspiring property, it is today in your hands that it flourishes and becomes one of the most romantic farms in the Douro.
