Álvaro de Castro is a civil engineer who inherited this property in 1980. He has dedicated himself exclusively to it, re-establishing the family tradition of wine production, which had been broken for two generations.
Taking to heart his youthful references and recalling the wines produced by Eng.º Vilhena from the Nelas study center, his first wine then appeared with the 1989 vintage.
From that time until today, he has been supported in oenology by Engineer Magalhães Coelho and more recently by his daughter, Engineer Maria Castro, and also by Engineer Ataíde Semedo.
The vineyards, aged between 3 and 65 years, are located at an average altitude of 550 m. The total area covers 60 hectares, where the typical grape varieties of the region are planted in granite-based soil with lines of sand and clay: Encruzado, Cercial, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Jaen, Alfrocheiro, Baga, and an old vine with more than 30 different varieties.
