THE Adega Cooperativa de Murça, CRL, founded in 1963 by a small group of winegrowers led by Francisco Abel Carneiro Lopes, is headquartered in the town of Murça. Integrated into the Douro Demarcated Region, today with 750 members, its emblem is the well-known Murça Sow, sculpted from a granite monolith, which reproduces a breeding boar. It is a symbol of the region's fertility and also of the belief and strength of the men who have cultivated the vines there for thousands of years.

It produces wines with the Douro Controlled Designation of Origin under the brand “Caves de Murça”. The 800 hectares of vineyards, based on schist and quartzite soils protected to the west from the humid and temperate winds of the Atlantic and to the north from the cold and dry winds of Galicia, enjoy a Mediterranean climate characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, not very rainy winters. These factors, influential in the typicity of the wines, combined with the strong commitment of the winegrowers, have consolidated Muriaé's image as a region producing great wines.
