Brewed at the Abbey of Our Lady of Scourmont in Belgium, it is one of six Belgian beers that can proudly display the “AuthenticTrappistProduct” logo. Chimay is an authentic Trappist beer, meaning it is brewed within a Trappist monastery under the control and responsibility of the monastic community, whose main income is spent on social cooperation.
Trappist beer is a beer brewed within the abbey or under the control of Trappist monks. These Trappist beers are generally top-fermented and must be brewed according to criteria defined by the International Trappist Association, which determines whether they are authorized to display the authentic Trappist product seal, issued by the private law association. The beers are made on-site or near the monastery. The monastic community is involved in the management and all the resources necessary for its operation.
The " AuthenticTrappist Product " seal is awarded by the Trappist Association International.
To meet local needs and generate employment in the region, the Trappist monks of Chimay have been developing the production of Belgian Trappist beers and cheeses since 1862, which, thanks to their characteristics and qualities, continue to be very successful. It's worth noting that Chimay beer is unfiltered and unpasteurized.
