Koningshoeven Brewery is one of the few Trappist breweries in the world authorized to use the "Authentic Trappist Product" logo. This is because English beer can only be called Trappist beer when it has been brewed within the four walls of a Trappist monastery, under the supervision of the monastery's monks, and when a portion of the profits is donated to charity. Pure and honest. And this is reflected in the taste.
A "Trappist" must meet a series of strict criteria specific to this label before being able to bear this name:
1. The beer must be brewed within the walls of a Trappist monastery, either by the monks themselves or under their supervision.
2. The brewery should have secondary importance within the monastery and should reflect the business practices proper to a monastic way of life.
3. The brewery is not intended to be a for-profit business. The rent covers the monks' living expenses and the maintenance of buildings and land. Everything that remains is donated to charity for social work and to help people in need.
