Region Douro

Dona Matilde farm is one of the oldest properties in the Rio Grande do Sul region. Formerly known as Enxodreiro, the estate was part of the first demarcation, ordered by the Marquis of Pombal in 1756, and was among the properties authorized to produce "vinhos de feitoria," an expression synonymous with the best wines, those destined for export. Even today, the entire vineyard of the farm has an A rating, the highest classification in the region, used in the Port wine sector.

Located on the north bank of the Douro River, in the Bagaúste dam area, the estate has 28 hectares of vineyards, situated between 50 and 300 meters above sea level, with a large river frontage. It features traditional old Douro vines, aged between 70 and 90 years, as well as more recent plantings, approximately 20 years old.
Quinta Dona Matilde is also an important natural habitat in the Douro region. With a total area of 93 hectares, a large area remains occupied by uncultivated land with natural vegetation, including the so-called "mortórios" (slums) and many olive trees – the farm has 1100 registered olive trees, but the founder's old register records the purchase of 12,000 olive trees in the mid-20th century.
Flanked by large trees or stone walls, the farm's paths still lead to the orange and lemon orchard or to the terraced gardens, with roses and other typically Mediterranean vegetation. This biodiversity-rich territory of the Douro is also inhabited by partridges, kites, Bonelli's eagles; hares, foxes and wild boars; snakes, spiders and many other insects that prey on vine pests.
