The business began with the grandfather of the company's global manager, Engineer Paulo Sousa. He came from the United States in the 1930s, where he acquired the first land and started production, selling in bulk or to cooperatives. This model continued until the 1980s, when wine production was paused. In 1990, with his father, Sidónio de Sousa, as producer and bottler, the process of bottling and marketing wine under his own name, "Sidónio de Sousa," began, launching the brands Reserva Tinto Sidónio de Sousa and Garrafeira Tinto Sidónio de Sousa in years of excellent quality (1995, 1997, 2000, 2005 and 2009).
After completing his studies in Chemical Engineering and collaborating with a wine production company, the family found in Eng. Paulo Sousa the right person to revitalize their own production. The return was so successful that it ended up requiring his full-time availability. The winery has approximately 12 hectares of its own vineyards, planted in clay-limestone soil, in Sangalhos, Bairrada region.
