The Palmela Cooperative Winery is one of the main development hubs of the municipality, which is markedly agricultural and where vineyards and wine have historically held considerable importance. The main viticultural area is located on the sandy plain that makes up a large part of the municipality of Palmela.
The Palmela Cooperative Winery began its activities with 50 members and a production that did not exceed 1.5 million liters. Today, production exceeds 8 million liters, and the winery has the capacity to reach 10 million liters, with 75% being red wine, 15% white wine, and 10% Moscatel de Setúbal.
Currently, it has 300 members who own a combined area of 1000 hectares. A substantial part of its production is bottled through 5 automatic lines with a capacity of 10,000 bottles/hour. The Palmela Cooperative Winery has been updating its technology over the years, both in manufacturing and bottling, and today it is a certified unit (ISO 9001-2000) since June 2003, thanks to the dedication and effort of its 40 employees.
