Quinta do Portal is a Portuguese, family-run, and independent estate that has passionately embraced the concept of a "Boutique Winery." It is dedicated to the production of Douro wines, Port wines of special categories, as well as Moscatel and olive oil.

This project, which materialized in the early 1990s, was based on Quinta dos Muros, a centuries-old property of the Mansilha family, and on the Port wine that had been produced there for four generations. With a vision for the future, the focus was immediately on creating world-class Douro wines, becoming part of the first group of the new generation of Douro producers who, fortunately, believed in the potential of Douro still wines.

Paulo Coutinho is in charge of winemaking and production, having been involved since 1994. He has had the technical support of Pascal Chatonnet in Douro wines since 1992, and also had the privilege of working with Jeremy Bull on Port wines in the years leading up to the turn of the century.

Quality has always been the motto, as evidenced by the numerous national and international awards given to Quinta do Portal's wines, olive oils, and various services.

The vineyards at Quinta do Portal are operating under an Integrated Production process, which requires adherence to certain standards in order to guarantee environmental protection.
Members of The Porto Protocol, a movement whose values are SUSTAINABILITY, OPTIMISM and SHARING through Responsibility, Collaboration and Commitment. The Mission is to promote collaborative action by bringing together a network of change-makers and viable climate solutions for the world of wine, and the Vision is to have a world where companies join forces and act together to delay and reverse climate change.

In vineyards, some of the practices used include:
> no soil disturbance between the rows;
Incorporating pruning wood into the soil;
> no use of residual herbicides;
Low-volume application rates for pesticides;
The increasing use of organic concealers;
> strategy of applying plant protection products only when the economic threshold for infestation is reached;
Vineyard planting is done using the "Vineyard on the Hill" system with slopes up to 40%, and from 40 to 60% slopes, planting is done on terraces with a single row of vines. This avoids the use of herbicides on the slopes, and the height of the slopes is also reduced.

With the practices described, it is possible to protect beneficial organisms, particularly those of the coccinellidae family.
Also noteworthy is the reappearance of flocks of partridges in the vineyards.
