From the very first grape…
On the steep, rugged slopes of the Douro, blessed by the sun and through the art of man, the vine produces a nectar worthy of the table of the gods.
The archaeological fame of the Douro predates its wine-growing heritage. In fact, peoples who discovered the riches of the subsoil passed through this region. They explored gold and tin, which were not only abundant but could be extracted using rudimentary methods employed in prehistoric times.
From tin to wine was a short step. And it is on the left bank of the ancient Pinhão River that the "Quinta do Estanho" (Tin Estate) is located, known by the name of the mineral that once proliferated there. After the subsoil was exploited, the next step was the cultivation of vines.
