VALLEGRE - Vinhos do Porto, SA, is a Portuguese company with a centuries-old tradition that embraces the continuity of a family business spanning five generations – shareholders and managers represent the 5th generation of a family of winegrowers from the Douro region. A producer and exporter of high-quality and prestigious Port wines, DOC Douro wines, and DOC Moscatel do Douro wines, it highlights not only the results of expansion and modernization over the years but also the preservation of ancestral family wisdom.
Its registered office is located at Quinta da Vista Alegre, situated in the heart of the world's oldest demarcated wine region – the Douro Demarcated Region – within the Cima Corgo sub-region, a few kilometers from Pinhão. It is a bucolic setting with a stunning and captivating landscape thanks to its privileged geographical location, offering visitors a beautiful view of the Douro River.
Characterized by immense natural beauty, its hidden corners are points of interest, a perfect harmony with nature that perpetuates itself in memory by sharpening the senses of sight - unique pleasures of the appreciation for rural life, the landscape, and nature itself.
The history of wine production on this farm's vineyards is admittedly distant, predating the 19th century. This conclusion is drawn from books specializing in grape variety types and from some abandoned terraces – the so-called "mortórios" (mortaries).
In the early 1970s, the company transformed from a sole proprietorship into a public limited company, at the time called Sociedade Agrícola Barros SA. In May 1998, the company changed its name to VALLEGRE - Vinhos do Porto, SA, a combination of the names of its two most important estates - Valle Longo and Vista Alegre - while maintaining its distinctly family-oriented character that unites five generations.
Their primary objective is the production of Protected Designation of Origin wines: DOC Porto, DOC Douro, and DOC Moscatel do Douro, of the highest quality and national and international prestige. Their wines are currently sold and appreciated in more than twenty-seven countries, and the numerous awards and distinctions received in various international competitions attest to the excellence of their quality.
