Quinta do Ataíde wines are made from organically grown grapes from this 81-hectare vineyard located in the remote Vilariça valley, Douro Superior. Vilariça is a unique place, characterized by moderately undulating terrain composed of schist soils, typical of the Douro, here with a clay component that helps retain moisture in the vineyard.
Produced at Quinta do Ataíde in the Vilariça valley (Upper Douro), an area with strong contrasts to the steep mountain vineyards that cover most of the rest of the Douro region. In this valley, rainfall is scarce, around 500mm annually, with very cold winters and hot summers. The combination of these factors favors organic farming and contributes to the production of exceptional Douro wines, very aromatic and with concentrated color and flavors.
