Quinta da Giesta and Fonte do Ouro are both highly representative of the traditional Portuguese landscape, characterized by small, fragmented properties, but with a highly diversified land use – agriculture and forestry, low urbanization, and natural and semi-natural patches. Mostly composed of vineyards and pine forests, as well as some small natural and semi-natural areas, this landscape is highly beneficial for the conservation of Mediterranean biodiversity, as it promotes moderate human pressure, allowing for the coexistence of humans and animals and the preservation of common rural habitats.
