Quinta do Espinho occupies 20 hectares overlooking the mouth of the Távora River on the left bank of the Douro River, the heart of the Douro Valley's wine-growing region, in the Cima Corgo sub-region, where some of the emblematic Port wine estates are located.
Considered one of the world's great wine-growing landscapes, the Alto Douro Wine Region was classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2001.
Its logistical and strategic location is exceptional, in terms of accessibility and, above all, in the enormous viticultural, landscape and environmental potential of the productions it undertakes.
To the terraced vineyards that extend from the river to an altitude of 195 meters, is added a nutrient-rich soil, formed by laminated pieces of schist that retain the moisture necessary for the vine to survive in the almost arid conditions that prevail during most of the summer.
In 1986, the project to install new vineyards and restructure the old vineyard began. In 2010, the winery and warehouse facilities were renovated. Fully respecting the requirements imposed by the Quinta's location in the heart of the Douro region, the early 18th-century buildings were restored, maintaining traditional structures such as the stone wine presses, which are still used today. The renovation was carried out with the most modern winemaking and storage equipment to ensure maximum quality and versatility in the demanding winemaking process.
