Bushmills is the oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world.

Bushmills is home to the world's oldest licensed whiskey distillery. Official records date back to 1608, when the area received its distilling license. More than 400 years later, whiskey is still being produced in Bushmills, thanks to the expertise and craftsmanship passed down through generations.

We couldn't make our whiskey anywhere but here. Our water, drawn from the Bush River, flows over beds of basalt rock.

Bushmills is more than just a whiskey. It's a village, where family, friends, and neighbors work side-by-side at the distillery. As we often say, "without the village there would be no whiskey, and without the whiskey there would be no village."

Bushmills is named for the mills that dotted the town along the Bush River.

In the 1850s, the Crown imposed a tax on those who distilled in Ireland through a barley tax. Even so, malted barley was known worldwide for producing the finest whiskey, known as "single malt" whiskey. When only malted barley is used in distillation and made in a single distillery, you have the very definition of "single malt" whiskey. This tax, however, forever changed Irish whiskey, as almost all Irish whiskey distilleries began substituting barley for corn or other inferior grains.

Not Bushmills.

To this day, Bushmills continues to distill single malt whisky at the world's oldest whisky distillery.
