Description

CASA DA SENRA wine is produced by Quinta dos Abrigueiros in the Lima river valley, north of Portugal, between the villages Ponte de Lima and Arcos de Valdevez.

In the 17th century, the Lord of Casa da Senra, Tristão de Azevedo de Araújo “Leones”, was already producing this wine on his lands. This was exported through the port of Viana do Castelo to Northern European countries. Part of these lands is Quinta dos Abrigueiros.
Today, the 10th generation, led by Paulo Pimenta de Castro Damásio, has expanded the vineyard's planting using the simple cordon training system, choosing the indigenous queen grape variety of the sub-region – Loureiro.

Despite now being planted in a large part of the Vinhos Verdes region, the Loureiro grape variety appears to have originated in the Lima Valley and this is clearly where its characteristics best manifest themselves.

“Loureiro” means “laurel” which refers to the golden color and the bay leaves that exude a special perfume. In classical antiquity, the “laurel wreath” symbolized glory and distinction, which fits perfectly with the characteristics of the grape variety!

Quinta dos Abrigueiros has been increasing production over the years, as well as investing in improving new winemaking technologies. This is made in our own wine cellar where we seek to enhance the freshness and aroma of the wine masses, obtaining a wine with a fruity aroma and a fresh flavor typical of the Loureiro grape variety.
