Description
Altas Quintas is the realization of producer João Lourenço's dream of making, in Alentejo, nothing less than great wines, which are a challenge for demanding wine lovers.
In this quest for perfection, it has been established in Serra de São Mamede since the 90s.
Driven by these objectives, he looked for ideal conditions for the project in Alentejo.
These conditions were found in the middle of Serra de São Mamede (Portalegre), 600 meters above sea level.
There are records of wine production in this emblematic region since the 15th century (Epoch of Discoveries).
The grape varieties that make up Altas Quintas wines are:
The reds Aragonez, Trincadeira, Alicante Bouschet, Syrah, Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon;
And the white ones, Verdelho, Arinto and Fernão Pires.
João Lourenço quickly realized that this location allowed him to make a difference.
The altitude, unique in Alentejo, immediately creates several differentiating factors:
• Soil characteristics;
• The microclimate of this plateau, with milder temperatures and rainfall
different from the rest of Alentejo.
Altas Quintas wines have a striking, unique structure and clearly reflect their Terroir of origin.
Firm but silky tannins, an unusual acidity and freshness for Alentejo.
Wines to enjoy for many good years.
Despite the recent history of the project, new, even more demanding challenges “rest” at the Winery.
