Brewed at the Abbey of Our Lady of Scourmont in Belgium, it is one of six Belgian beers that can proudly display the “AuthenticTrappistProduct” logo. Chimay is an authentic Trappist beer, that is, it is brewed within a Trappist monastery under the control and responsibility of the monastic community, whose main income is spent on social cooperation.
Trappist beer is beer brewed within the abbey or under the control of Trappist monks. These Trappist beers are generally top fermented and must be brewed in accordance with the criteria defined by the International Trappist Association, which determines whether they are authorized to display the seal of authentic Trappist product, issued by the association under private law. The beers are made on site or nearby the monastery. The monastic community is involved in the management and all resources necessary for the operation.
Stamp "AuthenticTrappistProduct“.” is awarded by TrappistAssociationInternational. It guarantees consumers the Trappist origin of products with well-defined criteria.
To satisfy local needs and generate employment in the region, the Trappist monks of Chimay have been developing since 1862 the production of Belgian Trappist beers and cheeses which, thanks to their characteristics and qualities, continue to be highly successful. Remembering that Chimay beer is neither filtered nor pasteurized.
