Founded in 1954 by a group of 100 winegrowers, Adega de Cantanhede now has 500 active associated winegrowers and an annual production of 6 to 7 million kilos of grapes, making it the main producer in the Bairrada Demarcated Region, representing about 40% of the region's total production. Today it certifies about 80% of its production, being a leading seller of Bairrada DOC and Beira Atlântico IGP wines.

Recognizing the enormous competitiveness in the national and international market, the qualitative evolution of its wines is the result of state-of-the-art technology, focusing on quality and food safety (Winery Certified by ISO 9001:2015, and more recently by IFS Food 6.1), but also on the promotion of Portuguese grape varieties, which has always guided its strategy, particularly the traditional varieties of Bairrada – Baga, Bical and Maria Gomes – but also other Portuguese varieties that find in Bairrada an ideal terroir , such as Touriga Nacional, Aragonez and Arinto, as it believes in the undeniable potential for differentiation and uniqueness that this heritage confers on its wines.

Their portfolio includes a wide range of products. In red, white, and rosé, their wines range from table wines to premium wines, in addition to a wide range of sparkling wines produced exclusively using the traditional method, as well as brandies and fortified wines. It is a portfolio that, thanks to its diversity and versatility, is able to meet the needs of different market segments with varying levels of quality requirements, resulting in their products being present in more than 20 markets.

His reputation as a producer, as well as that of his wines and brands, has been confirmed and consistently reinforced by the awards he has accumulated in his portfolio, resulting in more than 750 distinctions awarded in the most prestigious national and international competitions, notably Mundus Vini – Germany, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Selections Mondiales du Vins - Canada, Effervescents du Monde – France, Berliner Wein Trophy – Germany and Japan Wine Challenge. On several occasions, he was the only producer from Bairrada with wines awarded in these competitions and, therefore, today one of the most awarded producers in the region.

In 2015, it was included in the TOP 100 of the World's Best Producers, by WAWWJ – the World Association of Journalists and Critics of Wine and Spirits.

Over the past 8 years, it has been voted "Best Cooperative Winery" in Portugal 3 times by the specialist press:

- February 2012 - "Best Cooperative Winery of the Year 2011" by "Revista de Vinhos" (Wine Magazine).

- January 2017 – “Best Cooperative Winery” at the Special Awards of the 10th Anniversary Gala of “Paixão pelo Vinho” magazine.

- February 2020 - “Best Cooperative Winery of the Year 2019” by the magazine “Vinho – Grandes Escolhas”.

In 2014, it was considered "Best Sparkling Wine Producer 2013" by the W Award, from Aníbal Coutinho.
