Innovation and tradition – a title that could immediately describe the work of José Maria da Fonseca.
A family business with almost two centuries of history that, without ever resting on its laurels, has known how to modernize itself. José Maria da Fonseca has been operating in the wine industry since 1834, the result of the shared passion of a family that has known how to preserve and project the memory and prestige of its founder. Aware of the responsibility of being, currently, the oldest producer of table wine and Moscatel de Setúbal in Portugal, José Maria da Fonseca adheres to a philosophy of continuous development, which leads it to invest ever more in research and production support, combining the most modern techniques with traditional knowledge. An example of this is the José de Sousa Rosado Fernandes Winery, in Reguengos de Monsaraz, in the Alentejo region, where the Roman tradition of fermenting in clay pots is maintained alongside the latest technology.
Continuing to invest in internationally renowned products, always guided by quality, José Maria da Fonseca has made a decisive contribution to the promotion and prestige of Portuguese wines. From nearly 650 hectares of vineyards, and a winery equipped with cutting-edge technology that rivals the best in the world, come wines that combine the experience accumulated throughout its history with the most advanced winemaking techniques.
In addition to all the resources used in the production of its wines, what most characterizes the work at José Maria da Fonseca is an enormous passion for the art of winemaking. It is this passion, which generates emotions, that José Maria da Fonseca shares with the consumer every time they taste one of its wines.
