We are a family-owned company that has been producing Port wine for five generations. In the 19th century, the brand was created by our great-great-grandfather, José Silvério Vieira De Sousa.

Years after the brand's creation, due to the devastation of the vineyards by phylloxera, the company went through a period of financial instability resulting from years without production. It was at this time that José Ermelindo, our great-grandfather, found himself grappling with the difficult decision to sell the brand in order to replant all the family's vines, focusing again on the production, aging, and sale of Port wine by the barrel.

In 2008, with a new generation leading the company, Luísa, with the help of her father Antonio, decided to invest once again in the bottling of Port wine. “Vieira de Sousa” acquired new warehouses and equipment, launching the family back into the Port wine bottling business and, later, into Douro wines.

All our wines are produced with grapes from the family's four estates, which occupy almost 60 hectares in the Douro Valley: Quinta da Àgua Alta, Quinta do Fojo Velho, Quinta da Fonte and Quinta do Roncão Pequeno. The estates are located along the Douro River, allowing the company to produce different wines from year to year while maintaining quality.
