Altas Quintas is the realization of producer João Lourenço's dream to make nothing less than great wines in the Alentejo region, wines that will be a challenge for discerning connoisseurs.
In this quest for perfection, he has been based in the Serra de São Mamede since the 1990s.

Driven by these goals, he sought the ideal conditions for the project in the Alentejo region.
These conditions were found in the heart of the Serra de São Mamede (Portalegre), at an altitude of 600 meters.
There are records of wine production in this emblematic region dating back to the 15th century (the Age of Discoveries).
The grape varieties used in Altas Quintas wines are:
The reds Aragonez, Trincadeira, Alicante Bouschet, Syrah, Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon;
And the white varieties are Verdelho, Arinto, and Fernão Pires.

João Lourenço quickly realized that this location allowed him to make a difference.

The altitude, unique in the Alentejo region, immediately allows for the creation of several differentiating factors:

• Soil characteristics;
• The microclimate of this plateau, with milder temperatures and rainfall levels
different from the rest of the Alentejo region.

Altas Quintas wines have a distinctive, unique structure and clearly reflect their terroir of origin.
