The company, started in 1920 by Deonilde Freitas, continued by Germana Freitas and then by Ermelinda Freitas, has always dedicated special attention to wine. Due to the untimely death of her husband, Manuel João de Freitas, Ermelinda continued the business with the collaboration of her only daughter, Leonor, who, although trained outside the wine industry, took the lead, thus reinforcing the female presence in its management.
From the first generation, this estate has focused on the quality of its vineyards and wines, which were initially produced and sold in bulk without their own brand. It was under the current management that the major change occurred, with the creation of their own brands. Thus, in 1997, a new cycle began with the "Terras do Pó" red wine, the first wine produced and bottled by Casa Ermelinda Freitas.
Great Milestones
For her work, Leonor Freitas was awarded the Order of Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Merit, Class of Agricultural Merit, Commander, on June 10, 2009, by His Excellency the President of the Republic, Aníbal Cavaco Silva.
