“These lands are mine. One day, you will still own them and create a great farm,” the great-uncle of the house's founder – Engineer Hernâni Verdelho – wisely predicted, gazing from atop the dusty National Road 222 at the serene and sunny expanse of Quinta do Carrenho.

About 30 years ago, Hernâni Verdelho began a project to reconvert and improve his viticultural heritage of old vines, followed by the planting of new vines, most of which are located at Quinta do Carrenho, situated on sheltered, medium-altitude, schistous hillside land with excellent sun exposure.

Quinta do Carrenho is where Dona Berta wines are produced.

Encompassing approximately 15 hectares, it includes a winery – where our wines are produced – and a wine bar – where wine tastings are conducted and lunches and dinners are held with our guests (when events are held at our venue).

The farm is located at approximately 400-500 meters altitude – with the highest vineyard planted at 600 meters and the lowest at approximately 400 meters.

It has schistous soil, typical of this region of the Douro (Upper Douro), with little or no water, but above all sheltered and with excellent sun exposure.

At Quinta we have planted the typical grape varieties of the region: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Rabigato, Verdelho, all genuinely Portuguese and rigorously selected.
