Duorum was born in January 2007, a project based on a commitment to biodiversity, sustainability, and rural development. It was with these pillars that its essence was shaped, transforming several pieces of land and a plan on paper into an international wine-growing reality. Duorum's vineyards are located in the Douro Superior region, an exceptional and protected terroir, built on terraces at different altitudes, between 150-500 meters, with only native grape varieties.
Both the winery and the vineyards are located within the Douro Demarcated Region, one of the oldest in the world, whose landscape and cultural value has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Furthermore, Duorum's properties are situated in two areas that are part of the European Network for Nature Conservation (Natura 2000 Network): the Special Protection Area for Birds of the Douro International and Vale do Águeda, and the Site of Community Importance of the Douro International.
DUORUM's environmental and viticultural conduct led to recognition from the ICNB (Institute for Nature Conservation and Biodiversity) and its subsequent membership in the European Business & Biodiversity initiative, an international network of companies that integrates concerns for nature and biodiversity into their activities. This commitment has become an essential tool for achieving the high environmental standards established by DUORUM.
