ROOTS THAT TELL STORIES...
Casa dos Lagares is characterized by being a family business that has been linked to wine and vineyards for generations. It has always been located in Cheires, in the Douro region, where everything represents a strong historical and cultural determinism.
Here, in the 17th century, an entailed estate was founded, with the construction of a house (with a turret, still existing), a chapel (dated 1659) and other buildings that formed a farm and are believed to have given rise to the current village of Cheires. This is the starting point of this story.
Initially, the farm's main function was the production of fruits, cereals, and vegetables, with the aim of supplying other production units that, located closer to the Douro River, then began to specialize in wine production, requiring food products to support the growth of the workforce employed.
