'At the beginning of the 17th century, the Dutch sent the first Genever to the United Kingdom.'
400 years later, the crew of the VL92 was blazing a trail along the historic sea route to restore some of the Dutch courage to Gin.

On May 15, 2012, the first shipment of VL92 Gin to be distributed outside of the Netherlands was delivered to London. The gin arrived in London on a historic Dutch ship, having sailed from its base in Vlaardingen. Co-founder Sietze Kalkwijk presented the first case of VL92 Gin to the Artesian Bar team, led by world-renowned bartender Alex Kratena.
Due to popular demand in England, the creators of the Dutch VL92 Gin arranged for the gin to cross the Channel – and to do so in style.
The VL92 Gin was named after a historic freighter from the Dutch city of Vlaardingen. On May 11th, the original VL92 freighter will depart for England along with two other historic Vlaardingen lumber ships, with the VL92 Gin on board. The VL92, nicknamed "The Balder," will take the lead, followed by "The Iris" and "The Galant."

VL92 Gin was born from the quest of two entrepreneurs to find their ultimate gin. Built on a base of malt wine, VL92 Gin has its roots in the Dutch genever tradition. The malt wine gives it its boldness; its complexity derives from the interplay of botanical elements that culminate in the eccentric and citrusy final note of a surprising ingredient: coriander leaf. The gin was named after a historic Dutch sailing ship whose cargo contained exotic spices too daring for local genever recipes – but perfectly suited for a VL92 Gin.
