Joaquim Costa Vargas wines are the result of family production and originate from their own vineyards located at Herdade das Assentes de Baixo, in the heart of the Alentejo region, situated between Cuba and Alvito, and within the Vidigueira sub-region.
The vineyards are divided into plots of different ages, with the oldest vineyards dating from 1995 and the most recent from 2014. The vineyards occupy a portion of the 25-hectare property, where red varieties represent 80% of the area and include Trincadeira, Aragonês, Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. For white varieties, Antão Vaz predominates, but Arinto and Roupeiro are also planted.
In the vineyard, the goal is to produce grapes with character and typical characteristics of the region, with production geared towards obtaining a distinctly Alentejo style of wine.
