The Quinta da Faísca Winery is located in the Douro Demarcated Region, in the Cima Corgo sub-region, more precisely on the Favaios plateau.
The winery is located within Quinta da Faísca, which has a total of 17 hectares of vineyards, predominantly planted with white grape varieties – Moscatel Galego Branco, Gouveio, Viosinho, Verdelho, Rabigato, Códega, among others – and red varieties – Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Amarela, Pinot Noir, etc.
The construction of the Quinta da Faísca winery, in the parish of Favaios, dates back to 1946. The winery had 3 stone wine presses and 1 smaller stone press (on the upper floor) as well as a vertical press. On the lower floor rested 14 wooden barrels for aging Port and Moscatel wine.
With the aim of creating a winery that would allow for the vinification of small plots using different winemaking styles, some changes were made. All grape reception was moved outside the winery, while the traditional lagares (wine presses) and the vertical press were retained. On the lower floor, 7 vats of varying capacities were renovated, and 1 vertical press, 3 fermentation tanks, and 6 storage tanks were installed.
In the space previously occupied by the other old barrels, oak casks are now resting.
From sorting to pressing the grapes, no pumps are used. The architectural element of this winery – a two-story building – so characteristic of Douro wineries, allows the wine to be moved using gravity.
