Grand Marnier Cordon Rouge

The first Grand Marnier distillery was built in 1827 by Jean Baptiste Lapostolle in the village of Neauphle-le-Château. His granddaughter, Julia, married Louis-Alexandre Marnier in 1876, and four years later, the Marniers launched an exclusive cognac with Haitian bitter orange.

Swiss hotelier César Ritz (1850–1918) is said to have suggested the name "Grand Marnier" to Marnier-Lapostolle, who, in turn, helped him buy and establish the Hotel Ritz Paris. During the extravagant Belle Époque, Grand Marnier was served at both the Hotel Ritz and the Hotel Savoy. The brand launched commemorative editions of its famous lines of liqueurs and became popular in the United States in the 1980s.
