It all began in 1918, when Manoel Domingues Poças Júnior, born in the heart of the Port wine industry, decided to start his own business.
It was August 15th, a few months before the Armistice. Manoel Poças was 30 years old and had some work experience in the field. With his uncle, he founded a company to sell brandies to large Port wine producers. Shortly afterwards, he established the headquarters, which remains to this day, in Vila Nova de Gaia.
First his uncle, then his brothers, his wife, his grandchildren: the entire Poças family came to share his passion for wine, combining respect for tradition with an open mind to the innovation brought by new generations.
Today, with three estates in the best locations of the Douro Demarcated Region, Poças has total control over the quality of its wines. And the family's involvement is stronger than ever.
