Quinta do Cachão is located on the banks of the Douro River, in Cima Corgo, the most inhospitable, ancient, deep and beautiful region to which the river lends its name. This vineyard was first planted in 1845 by the Baron of Seixo, and was later acquired by the Afonso Cabral family, who in turn sold it to the Messias family in 1956. In order to increase its production, Messias acquired an adjacent property in 1958, Quinta do Rei, then owned by Gonzalez Byass.

TERROIR

Extending across the slopes of a hill topped by a small chapel dedicated to Saint Barbara, the Quinta currently occupies 200 hectares, half of which are cultivated with vines, classified as category A, the highest category on the Douro scale. The grape varieties planted are naturally the traditional ones of the region, suitable for producing both Port wine and wine with the Douro Designation of Origin. Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz are the dominant varieties, followed by Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão.
