Quinta da Alorna was founded by D. Pedro de Almeida.
After conquering the fortified city of Alorna near Goa, where he served as Viceroy, he received the title of 1st Marquis of Alorna from the King of Portugal, D. João V.
D. Pedro de Almeida was the grandfather of D. Leonor, IV Marchioness of Alorna – the poetess Alcipe. At that time (1723) the farm, belonging to the Marquis of Alorna, was known as the Vale de Nabais farm.
Many years later, two of the daughters of the Marchioness of Alorna sold the "Quinta dos Alorna" (as it was called) to the Counts of Junqueira, and the heirs sold it at public auction, passing it into the hands of Dr. Manuel Caroça – great-grandfather of the current shareholders – a respectable dentist, commodities broker and businessman who ended up becoming the sole owner of Quinta da Alorna.
