QUINTA DA PEDRA, one of the most historic properties in Alto Minho, with roots dating back to the 17th century, is today the largest continuous vineyard of Alvarinho grapes in Portugal.

Located in the municipality of Monção, in the parish of Longos Vales, in the heart of the Monção and Melgaço Sub-Region, this extensive property with 43 hectares of vineyards dedicated to the Alvarinho grape variety benefits from granitic soils and generous sun exposure.

Careful and precise viticulture, guaranteed by the "know-how" of the IDEALDRINKS team, gives rise to the best grapes of this noble variety, the basis of the estate's single-varietal wines – the excellent Quinta da Pedra and the surprising Longos Vales.

In a dialogue between past, present and future, the architecture of the new winery at QUINTA DA PEDRA is inspired by the walls of Monção and thus constitutes a personal tribute from Carlos Dias to the town that gives them their name.
Classified as a National Monument since 1910, the preserved walls of Monção are a historical testament to the fortress erected in the 17th century according to a design by the French military engineer Michel de L'Escole and under the direction of master builder João Alves do Rego.

Integrating and rehabilitating part of the medieval walls, particularly on the riverfront, the extensive 17th-century wall, with a perimeter of 2700 m, has a polygonal plan, nine geometric bastions, defended by vigilant guard posts, and five gates, of which three remain today, most notably the Salvaterra gate, which displays the national coat of arms.
The construction of these walls was a landmark of modernization in the long history of the town of Monção, which received its charter from King Afonso III on March 12, 1261, and became famous for the legend of Deu-la-deu Martins, wife of the local mayor, who in 1369, during the Fernandine Wars, is said to have ended the siege by the Castilians by throwing the town's last provisions at them. This feat is still remembered today in the town's coat of arms, which features, atop a crenellated tower, a woman half-length, holding a loaf of bread in each hand, surrounded by a border bearing the town's motto: "God gave it, God has given it."
