Region Douro

Since 1860, Quinta dos Aciprestes has been the result of a merger of several neighboring estates. The original farm – called “Cyprestes” – was founded in the 18th century by D. José de Seabra, one of the ministers of Queen D. Maria I, and later owned by his successors, the Viscounts of Bahia.

Currently, Quinta dos Aciprestes extends for more than 2 km along the left bank of the Douro River, in the Tua area. Easily identifiable by its cypress trees, located next to the farmhouse, and by the landscape character of the place, framed by vineyards arranged vertically, highlighting the absence of traditional terraces, a result of recent vineyard reconversion work.

Quinta dos Aciprestes is one of the most renowned Douro estates in terms of the excellence of its terroir 's viticultural potential. As the estate is recognized with an A classification for the granting of benefits (Port Wine), the quality and uniqueness of the red wines produced here for over two centuries is also associated with the typical characteristics of Douro reds.

The estate is nestled in a magnificent landscape framed by the Douro River, with a 2.2 km stretch of riverfront, and is characterized by rolling slopes covered in beautiful vineyards. Located in the heart of the demarcated region, in an area considered prime in the parish of Soutelo do Douro, opposite the mouth of the Tua River (a tributary of the Douro), practically at the transition between the sub-regions of Cima Corgo and Douro Superior.

Quinta dos Aciprestes is a property that is very characteristic of the Douro region and clearly demonstrates the reality of mountain viticulture. The vineyard occupies the entire length of the slopes, whose original relief had gradients between 30% and 50%.

The farm is located next to the river, at altitudes between 100 and 350 meters. The predominant exposure is to the North quadrant, between the Northeast and Northwest directions. This exposure is very interesting as it contributes to the formation of a very particular microclimate that is crucial to the terroir of Quinta dos Aciprestes.
