The Diplomático distillery is located at the foot of the Andes Mountains in Venezuela, where the purest water flows to obtain the best possible rum. Its location was also carefully selected for its proximity to the region's main sugar processing plants.

Founded in 1959, Licorerías Unidas SA (LUSA) owned the distillery through its main shareholder, Seagram's International, one of the world's largest wine and spirits companies.

In 2002, LUSA was sold to a group of Venezuelan businessmen and became a 100% privately owned Venezuelan company with its current name: Destilerías Unidas SA (DUSA). The company prides itself on being an independent, family-owned operator.

The distillery is unique because it has 3 different distillation processes that, combined in the blend, produce unique rums, such as the Reserva Exclusiva from Diplomatico, a rum acclaimed worldwide.
