Susana Esteban was born in Tui, Spain. She holds a degree in Chemical Sciences from the University of Santiago de Compostela and a master's degree in Viticulture and Oenology from the University of La Rioja. She began her career as an oenologist in 1999 at Quinta do Côtto, later working as an oenologist at Quinta do Crasto between 2002 and 2007. Both estates are located in the Douro Valley. Since the 2007 harvest, she has worked as a consultant for various producers in Rio Grande do Sul.

Throughout this journey, her work has been recognized both nationally and internationally. In 2012, she was awarded the most prestigious prize a winemaker can receive in Portugal, the title of "Winemaker of the Year," by Revista de Vinhos, being to date the only woman to have received this distinction.

At the end of 2009, Susana Esteban decided to start her personal project with the goal of making wines with a character different from the traditional Alentejo wines. For two years, Susana Esteban searched throughout the Alentejo region for the ideal vineyards to make her wines. Only in 2011 did she finally find two plots in Portalegre, an area much cooler than the rest of the Alentejo territory. One traditional vineyard, which brings together a wide range of traditional grape varieties with very low yields, adds unusual freshness and complexity, and a 100% Alicante Bouschet vineyard, which provides power and structure. From the combination of these two plots, a unique and extraordinary wine was born: “Procura”.

In January 2016, he was awarded the "Breakthrough Producer of the Year 2015" prize by the prestigious magazine "Wine - A Essência do Vinho" for the enormous success achieved with the wines produced, both nationally and internationally.

In addition to Alentejo wines, Susana Esteban established a partnership in 2011 with her friend and fellow winemaker, Sandra Tavares, to produce wine together. The first fruit of this partnership was named "Crochet," a wine made in the Douro region. Since 2014, "Crochet" has been accompanied by an Alentejo sibling, also a red wine, "Tricot," produced in the Alentejo region.
