Matsui Shuzou was founded in 1910 and is located in Tottori Prefecture, northwest of Kyoto, on the coast of the Sea of Japan. The fresh groundwater of Tottori is a blessing of the land and is used to produce Kurayoshi Whisky. It is this water that characterizes this whisky, which is very flavorful and smooth, hence its name Kurayoshi, the green city of water. Tottori is known for its mineral water and abundance of nature. More than 14% of the prefecture's total area is designated as a Natural Park.
